George Balmer

10 December 2009

Sadly, George Balmer died on Thursday 3 December.

George played many games for the Mills from the 1960s through to the 1980s.

In the last few years, he spent many hours on the ground with David, Mike, and Tony.

He was a professional groundsman, and over the last twenty years had been a huge help to the club, offering his time, sourcing machinery, and organising loam and grass seed and all sorts of other things needed for the ground.

We will miss his knowledge, advice, and practical help.

George was a larger-than-life character, and good company – few conversations with George were dull. During his years at King’s School, Gloucester, he prepared wickets for Gloucestershire first-class matches – and was mentioned in national newspapers and on national radio more than once.

George will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

We offer our sincere condolences to George’s wife Judy, his sons David, Mark, and Graham, his daughter Anne-Marie, and his grandchildren.
