dynamos 2024
-
Dynamos Cricket at Witney Mills is for girls between the ages of nine and 11. Dynamos is usually for girls AND boys, but at Witney Mills it is just for girls (see the bottom of this page for more on boys' cricket).
-
Registration opens on April 3rd (which is later than usual and is down to an issue with the ECB).
-
Dynamos at Witney allows girls to develop the fundamental movement skills required in cricket and apply them in an exciting game of countdown cricket at the end of each session.
-
All participants get their very own Dynamos New Balance t-shirt, personalised with their name and number.
-
You don't need to join the club to take part in Dynamos.
-
Our sessions are run by women coaches.
-
Dynamos takes place on a Friday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
-
There are eight weekly sessions (with a break for half term) and they start on May 17th.

No Dynamos FOR boys?
-
Dynamos was launched by the ECB in recognition of the fact that children looking to take up the game after the age of eight were being thrown straight into hardball cricket – which was putting some children off because they didn't have the confidence or technical skills to enjoy the greatest game.
-
We already cater for boys who are aged nine to 11 and are looking to try the sport for the first time.
-
Parents and carers of boys who are aged nine to 11 should contact Witney Mills directly (see below). We will start them on softball with our under 9s and assess whether they are technically and temperamentally ready for hardball, with a view to getting them playing 'proper' cricket as soon as it is safe and once you are happy for them to do so. These sessions are free for them.
-
We do not envisage boys between the ages of nine and 11 who are new to the sport spending a year or two years playing softball. The sessions they attend are designed to allow them to quickly and safely move on to the cricket that they should be playing at that age – which is hardball.
-
Getting the move from softball to hardball right is very important if children are not to be put off the game.
-
Children must have the confidence and technique to bat against a hard cricket ball bowled at up to 60mph or catch a ball that is hit at them just as hard. Some children who take up the game relatively late (between the ages of nine and 11) have the hand-eye ability and temperament to become safe quickly. Others don't.
-
We will make sure that, for their safety, your child makes the move to hardball at the right time so that nothing prevents them from developing a lifelong love of the game.
